Located in the heart of the City, just round the corner from London’s Liverpool Street lies Devonshire Terrace an excellent indoor & outdoor drinking and dining venue that’s a favourite with the after work crowd. Offering an excellent and creatively designed menu along with an extensive cocktail list, this venue stands out from its local competitors and Total Access were lucky enough to be invited to try out their new Summer Menu. When the sun is shining, sitting out on the terrace is the perfect way to take a break from the stresses and strains of a busy day and Devonshire Terrace has two outdoor options, one which is under cover (excellent if there is the possibility of rain – and as we live in London, there is always a chance!) This way everyone’s a winner as the weather will never disrupt your experience.
Unfortunately, when we arrived the weather wasn’t great so we chose to eat inside. Upon arrival we were greeted by a team of friendly staff who offered us water and delicious freshly baked bread whilst we looked at the menu. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was no sign of the standard ‘pub grub’, instead it was clear that a lot of thought had gone in to producing this new, seasonally inspired menu which includes predominantly locally sourced ingredients. As it was lunch time we decided on main courses only (we couldn’t afford to be fast asleep at our desks all afternoon) and after much deliberation I opted for the ‘Cotswold Lamb Rump with fresh minted pea puree’ which is served with potato cannelloni and red wine jus as recommended by a member of the Devonshire Terrace team.It really was absolutely delicious, the lamb was tender and perfectly cooked. Our second choice was the ‘Pressed Blythburgh Pork Belly and thyme flavoured crackling’ with carrot puree, sweet pickled carrots & a walnut jus which was equally tasty and in my personal opinion it was one of the best Pork Belly’s that I have ever had...Bold statement I know!
We teamed our meal with a selection of side dishes and were fit to burst when we were finished. Despite it being the middle of the day, the Devonshire Terrace team insisted that we tried one of their cocktails as they make all of their purees in house so everything is fresh. We opted for a Cosmopolitan – a classic cocktail that many places get so wrong, however I am pleased to report that this one lived up to all expectations and I would highly recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in Liverpool Street and in need of something punchy!!
The grand finale was coffee and homemade truffles, including a Rum Truffle, a White chocolate and Roasted almond, a Strawberry Mousse and a Peach Tea. An excellent finishing touch that made the meal memorable! I would suggest that if you are based in the local area and have never been in then you re-think your favourite city haunt.
Devonshire Terrace has an excellent membership service that rewards regulars with a number of benefits from the venue, as well as hosting a number of events throughout the year including a selection of very popular cocktail master classes.
