RESTAURANT
Fornata
Published Wednesday November 2nd 2011
The team behind Mayfair's popular Babbo Italian restaurant have just launched Fornata, in London's Kingly Street. The name derives from the Italian word 'forno', meaning oven and the restaurant's exposed kitchens form a focal point amidst a rustic interior inspired by southern Italian lemon groves that transport the diner into sunnier climes.
Chef Douglas Santi and his kitchen team oversee both Babbo and Fornata and the menu has an emphasis on oven-cooked dishes from Southern Italy that lend themselves to sharing. Fornata opens for Breakfast at 8am serving freshly baked Italian breads and pastries served with authentic Italian coffee and then for lunch and dinner, diners can expect a variety of roasted meat and fish dishes alongside traditional southern Italian cuisine including Sardella, Pollo alla Diavola and Mamma Rosa's roast beef with tomatoes and onions.
You can also keep the Italian aperitivo tradition alive while propping up the bar for a spot of post work Negroni and antipasti or take advantage of the 1am opening hours and just drop in for late night cocktails.
